Encouraging students to customize the front cover of their English book can be a simple yet effective way to promote engagement and ownership in the classroom. By allowing students to make their book unique and personal, they are more likely to feel invested in the material and motivated to learn. Additionally, this activity provides an opportunity for students to express their creativity and imagination. Starting the school semester with such a fun and engaging activity can set a positive tone for the entire year. When students have the opportunity to personalize their own learning materials, they may feel a greater sense of ownership over their learning. This can lead to greater responsibility and engagement in the classroom.
These are some of reasons why I allow my students to personalise the front cover of their writing book (buku tulis). Even though I prepare the template for them (to make it standardise for their class), but I still allocate some spaces for them to create their own artwork on the front page. I prepare two small paper notes in the centre of the front cover template for them to explore their imagination and produce their personalised artwork.
If you guys are interested to use the front cover template that I’ve made for my students, feel free to download the file below.
